If your email or social media campaigns aren't performing as well you'd like, this article may provide some clues as to why.

An E-Marketing company called ExactTarget released the results of a survey of more than 1,500 subscribers showing why they no longer follow brands online.

If there is one main point to take away, it's this: Don't communicate too frequently with your list - especially if you don't have anything interesting or new to say.

This is exactly why we have advised campaigns for years against blasting general updates to email lists. If you write compelling emails that have a point and ask the recipient to take an action, you will be rewarded.

Praise for The Dover Group

"Bringing in the Dover Group was one of the smartest things we did. Their focus on strategic planning, disciplined messaging, and online coalition building made a significant impact. The result: we increased early childhood education funding by $17 million and built a grassroots network of more than 25,000 people. We couldn't have done it without their help."
