Direct Mail Production Manager

The Dover Group is looking to hire a motivated, self-starting production manager to help us win Democratic victories up and down the ballot in the 2020 election cycle.

The production manager will work directly with local, statewide, and federal Democratic campaigns in targeted races across the country, managing the production of their direct mail programs from concept, copywriting, and design to client approval, printing, mailing, and delivery. In other words, keep the trains running on time so our mail campaigns run smoothly and our candidates WIN!

The candidate should be highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing several projects at once. She or he should thrive in a fast-paced environment and respond well to deadlines.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop great working relationships with designers, copywriters, clients, printers, and mail houses. Ensure all parties have the resources they need to do their jobs
  • Clearly outline schedules and expectations to clients and vendors then communicate with them daily to meet deadlines
  • Work collaboratively with the Dover team and proactively communicate with relevant team members every day (including people working outside the Chicago office)
  • Work with printers and mail houses to submit art and approve mail for print
  • Nimbly and quickly address any disturbances in mail production
  • Track your work closely to ensure nothing falls through the cracks

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Democratic political campaign experience preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills. Experience in project management is a plus
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally over email and phone
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience in Smartsheet and/or the Adobe design suite is a plus
  • Flexible schedule and ability to work irregular hours, including occasional evenings and weekends

Direct Mail Production Assistant

An excellent entry-level opportunity, our production assistant will support our production managers in producing direct mail programs for local, statewide, and federal Democratic campaigns in targeted races across the country.

The production team is responsible for shepherding direct mail from concept, copywriting, and design to client approval, printing, mailing, and delivery. In other words, keep the trains running on time so our mail campaigns run smoothly and our candidates WIN!

The candidate should be highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing several projects at once. She or he should thrive in a fast-paced environment and respond well to deadlines.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop great working relationships with production managers, designers, copywriters, mail houses, and USPS representatives. Communicate with them comfortably and clearly over email, phone, and Slack.
  • Manage our proofreading process
  • Track mail once it enters the postal system
  • Nimbly and quickly address any disturbances in mail delivery by working directly with our mail house and USPS partners
  • Help production managers track invoices and payment
  • Track your work closely to ensure nothing falls through the cracks
  • Serve as a general resource to our production managers and pitch in with whatever job needs done

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated interest in Democratic politics
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally over email, phone, and chat
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

Direct Mail Copywriter

Job Description

We are seeking talented copywriters who can write compelling, persuasive direct mail copy for Democratic political clients. Additional projects could include writing copy for campaign literature, emails, and digital ads.

Writing opportunities include both full and part-time positions.

As a part of the Dover Group’s creative team, the copywriter will report to the Chief Creative Officer and will work with graphic designers, other copywriters, the production team, and senior staff members to produce work that is consistent with the Dover Group’s history of award-winning direct mail.

Our writers should be creative, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing several projects at once. We work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, sometimes with irregular hours.

Experience in political writing is strongly preferred.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Produce content for compelling political communications, most frequently direct mail
  • Develop unique mailer concepts tailored to each client’s story, voice, and strategic objectives
  • Use polling data and other research to craft copy that is strategic and targeted
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the creative team to produce the best possible mail
  • Proactively communicate with relevant team members as needed (including people working in other office locations)
  • Track your work closely to ensure nothing falls through the cracks

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in copywriting

Graphic Designer

We are seeking a graphic designer who can work full time in-house with us to produce direct mail, campaign literature, campaign collateral, logo and branding concepts, infographics, shareable social media graphics, social media ads, and digital display ads, among other things.

  • Expertise working with the Adobe suite, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop

  • Sensitivity to deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Experience producing print-ready native files and images
  • Experience producing animated graphics or short videos is a plus, but not required
